OUR PROCESS

Every jar of Sea Love Sea Salt has been hand-harvested, created by the slow, natural process of solar-evaporation.

and our story of ocean-to-table begins right here, in Wrightsville Beach, nc.

the sea

We begin gathering seawater until we reach capacity of a 275 gallon tank. Once full, this tank weighs nearly 3,000 pounds! We then transport the water to our farm in Burgaw, NC to be filtered, processed and packaged.

our salthouses

We have two solar greenhouses for evaporating seawater. After filtration, we fill the trays by hand, not touching them again until the salt is ready for harvest. Relying only on the sun, weather and patience, the salt making truly begins! The length of this process varies with changes of season and weather. Though, we don’t mind, as we enjoy how this requires us to slow down.

crystallization

During this stage, the water starts to crisp up, forming into crystals. As the water evaporates slowly, crystals will float at the top and near the bottom. This is a very good sign! The result is a greenhouse full of magnificent salt crystals, each tray a unique design of its own. We often admire this, likening these intricate patterns to ocean waves or sand dunes.

harvesting and cleaning

When the salt is ready to harvest, we scrape the crystals into cheesecloth bags and hang them to drip dry. This releases any remaining moisture, ensuring the salt is dry enough to be packaged, as well as preserving arguably the most distinguished quality of sea salt itself; the naturally occurring trace minerals present in the ocean.

small-batch finishing salts

Every single jar of Sea Love Sea Salt is small-batch. We carefully look over the salt crystals before sifting, grinding, or separating out the salt.  We use many local herbs and dehydrate them before mixing with our salt.  We love collaborating with local farmers to create flavors for our salts.

Finishing Salts: All-natural, unrefined salts with a flaky and moist texture. Used to sprinkle over finished dishes for an extra burst of flavor.
